BLØF, a dynamic Dutch rock band hailing from Vlissingen, Zeeland, has been making waves in the music scene since its inception in 1992 by founder Peter Slager. Comprising the current lineup of Peter Slager (bass), Paskal Jakobsen (lead vocals and guitar), Bas Kennis (keyboards), and Norman Bonink (drums), BLØF has garnered widespread acclaim for its musical prowess and engaging performances. Notable former members include Henk Tjoonk and Chris Götte.
This powerhouse band stands as one of the Netherlands' most beloved musical acts, boasting an impressive collection of 8 Edison Awards. Their dominance in the Dutch music scene is evident, having clinched the Edison Award for "Best Band in the Netherlands" in 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2004.
BLØF's musical journey began with the release of their debut album, "Naakt Onder De Hemel," in 1994, recorded in just one week. The album's success, particularly the local hit "Aan de Kust," propelled them into the national spotlight. Their early DIY approach to distribution and promotion, including a rudimentary website in 1995, allowed fans direct access to the band and tour date information, fostering a strong connection with their audience.
In 1997, internal conflicts almost led to the band's dissolution, resulting in the departure of drummer Henk Tjoonk and the introduction of Chris Götte. This transition marked a turning point for BLØF, with subsequent hits like "Liefs uit Londen" and updated versions of earlier successes.
The band's breakthrough came with the release of "XXL Live Met Het Zeeuws Orkest" in 1998, a live album recorded with an orchestra from Zeeland. The studio album "Boven" followed, featuring the hit "Harder Dan Ik Hebben Kan." Their achievements were acknowledged with an Edison Award for Best Dutch Band in 2000.
Tragedy struck in 2001 when drummer Chris Götte lost his life in a motorcycle accident. BLØF took a hiatus, returning in 2002 with a live CD, "Oog In Oog — Live I in Ahoy," dedicated to their fallen member. Norman Bonink took over as the new drummer, and the album "Blauwe Ruis" released in 2002 paid homage to Chris Götte and his family.
The band continued to evolve, exploring different musical styles and collaborating with international artists. The poignant "Holiday in Spain," recorded with American band Counting Crows in 2004, marked their entry into the U.S. music scene.
In 2005, BLØF embarked on a global journey to draw inspiration for their album "Umoja" (2006), a project aimed at raising awareness for the Millennium Development Goals. The band collaborated with artists from 12 countries, resulting in a book, concerts, and a DVD.
The subsequent albums, "Oktober" (2008) and "April" (2009), explored stripped-down sounds but were not as successful. BLØF returned to their roots with "Alles Blijft Anders" in 2011.
Throughout their career, BLØF has demonstrated resilience and creativity, consistently pushing musical boundaries. In 2015, they celebrated the 10th edition of Concert at SEA, an annual music festival organized by the band. In 2017, the album "AAN" featured collaborations with rapper Typhoon and a tribute to Thé Lau. The single "Zoutelande" reached #1 in January 2018 and held the position for over ten weeks.
As BLØF continues to captivate audiences with their distinctive sound, fans eagerly anticipate future concerts and tour dates. Stay tuned for updates on ticket releases, and join the legions of fans worldwide in experiencing the energy and magic of a BLØF live performance.
