Goran Bregović, born on March 22, 1950, is a highly accomplished recording artist hailing from Bosnia and Herzegovina. With a career spanning five decades, he stands as one of the most internationally recognized modern musicians and composers in the Slavic-speaking countries of the Balkans. Bregović gained prominence as the lead guitarist and creative force behind Bijelo Dugme, a highly influential band in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Following the dissolution of Bijelo Dugme, Bregović delved into various successful projects, including composing film scores. Notably, he received acclaim for his work on Emir Kusturica's films such as "Time of the Gypsies," "Arizona Dream," and "Underground," earning prestigious awards. His diverse talent led him to collaborate with acclaimed singers, including Sezen Aksu, Kayah, Iggy Pop, Šaban Bajramović, George Dalaras, and Cesária Évora.

Bregović's musical journey extends beyond Yugoslavia, with performances at renowned international venues like Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, and L'Olympia. His compositions draw inspiration from Balkan, Romani, Greek, Italian, Turkish, and Polish musical traditions, creating a unique fusion of popular and traditional Balkan music, tango, and brass bands.

In the late 1980s, Bregović ventured into film music, achieving success with projects like "Time of the Gypsies" and "Arizona Dream." He continued his musical exploration, collaborating with artists such as Sezen Aksu, George Dalaras, and Kayah. Bregović's work with Kayah resulted in a multi-platinum record in Poland.

Since the late 1990s, Bregović has been captivating audiences worldwide with his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra, featuring a diverse ensemble of musicians. His performances showcase a rich blend of brass band, bagpipes, string ensemble, choir, and traditional singers, creating a vibrant and immersive musical experience.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Bregović is known for his real estate investments worldwide, dividing his time between Belgrade and Paris. He holds strong political views, having been a member of the Yugoslav Communist League in the early 1970s. Bregović remains an influential figure in the music industry, despite occasional controversies, including accusations of plagiarism and denial of entry into certain countries due to political affiliations.
