Heimweh, formerly known as Schluneggers Heimweh until 2017, stands as a prominent Swiss men's choir founded by Georg Schlunegger.
The inception of Schluneggers Heimweh took place in 2014 when composer and producer Georg Schlunegger initiated the search for singers to form a choir dedicated to composing new folk songs. The goal was to gather suitable vocalists from different Swiss cantons. The choir made its debut on August 4, 2016, during the SRF show "Donnschtig-Jass," introducing their first single, "Rosemarie," an instant hit. Despite being exclusively available on the choir's website, the debut album "Heimweh" quickly earned a Goldene Schallplatte (Golden Record certification). At the Swiss Music Awards, the choir triumphed in the categories of "Best Group" and "Best Breaking Act," with the album achieving Double Platinum status.
In early 2017, Schlunegger announced his withdrawal from the live activities of the project, citing a desire to focus more on family life after becoming a father once again in July 2017. Consequently, the name "Schlunegger" wasremoved from the band's name, and the project has since been known simply removed from the band's name, and the project has since been known simply as "Heimweh." Schlunegger continues to contribute as the band's songwriter and producer.
For the SRF show "I schänke dir es Lied," Heimweh stepped in for the temporarily absent Jodlerklub Wiesenberg, performing a cover of Polo Hofer's "Blueme," which became the season's most beloved song. This track also served as the title song for their second album, claiming the top spot on the Swiss Hitparade. The album included "Alls wärs geschter gsi," a Swiss German rendition of the Guns N' Roses classic "Sweet Child of Mine." The album's success was evident even before its release, earning a Platinum certification for "Blueme" based on pre-orders.
In 2018, the album "Vom Gipfel is Tal" reached the number one position on the Swiss Hitparade, followed by the third chart-topper, "Ärdeschön," just a year later. Despite reaching second place with the album "Zämehäbe" in 2020, Heimweh secured their third Swiss Music Award for the best album of the year. Fans eagerly anticipate Heimweh's future concerts and tour dates, seeking tickets to experience the magic of this acclaimed Swiss men's choir live on stage.
